According to recent sources that we have discovered, there is a rumor out in the BMW in five world that the new M5 super saloon will get in XDrive four-wheel-drive system when it arrives later this year.
This next generation M5 will also get a 600 hp powertrain which will offer one of the highest base horsepower sedans in the market. One of the most important aspects of the M5 is that it drives like today’s M5, with better traction; traction that will be needed to help launch those 600 ponies down the road.
Another discussion within the same sources covered the desire of an electrified M car, to which no desire has been seen, although competitors at Mercedes were using the venue to announce their plans for a 900 hp monster which will be fitted with a Formula One racing engine and combined with a powerful electric motor. Can anyone say watch out Tesla?
The new M5 which is due to be revealed later in 2017, is already been seen zooming around the track at Nurburging. As is the standard, the prototype was fully camouflaged in an effort to hide front grill changes and other body line enhancements.
Regarding propelling the rocket down the track, there has been some significant speculation on the engine size and forced induction type that will be used. Many sources are suggesting that the current 4.4 L twin turbocharged V8 will stay with some adjustments needed to help improve emissions and fuel economy. Can anyone say gas guzzler?
With the current and increasing pressure on car manufacturers to improve the omissions and decrease weight, there is a high chance that a turbocharged street six engine could be used, just like the one currently in the BMW M4. Obviously the straight six will need heavy tuning to get the numbers closer to 600 hp.
We at EuroMpire are looking forward to the new M5 gracing the show rooms with its beautiful presence. Of course, 600 hp is plenty fun for most people, however we are more than willing to get those numbers higher!
